Introduction

This is my personal website, that outlines my expertise in the field of distance education as well as exploring use of technology in education.

In my Blog you will find posts and thoughts related to the areas of my interest. They are: distance educations, instructional design, competency based learning, use of technology in education, tools for education, learners' success, program evaluation and development, assessment of knowledge, accessible learning. Some will be more theoretical, others will reflect on hands-on experiences.

Distance Education

With advancements of technology, distance education becoming one of the fastest growing industries in 21st century. Many traditional universities now offering online or blended courses and programs. If that is not enough to see the growth in distance education interest, add corporate education and sharing knowledge sites, such as Udemy, Lynda, Khan Academy, etc. Distance education been part of my professional life for more than 15 years.

Technology and Tools
in Education

Technology is helping to enhance distance education. Without use of technology there is no distance education. Change in demographics of students and their knowledge of technology challenges educators to bring the best application of technology and tools to online classrooms. It is important to regularly survey the market for stable and emerging tools and systems that will enrich learning and teaching experiences.

Instructional Design

About 10 years ago, instructional design caught my attention. Instructional Design is defined as a systematic process of identifying learning needs and developing of instructional materials and activities to meet those needs. Simplified version of the instructional design process ADDIE is described as Analyze (learners and goals), Design (outcomes and assessment strategies), Develop (learning activities and course materials), Implement, Evaluate (your instructions).

Program Evaluation and Development

Although I don’t have much formal experience in Program Evaluation and Development, this topic holds my interest, as it is directly relates to the topics of distance education and instructional design. There are many types and strategies of conducting program evaluation but their goal is to analyze and provide information for planning, (re)design, and implementation based on current goals, outcomes, and experiences of everybody involved in the program. It is used for providing informed improvements or accountability checks.
